Volunteer to be appointed for Devil's night: phone no provided

From Sunday October 29 Halloween eve is going to be celebrated. But the eve which is mostly known as Devil's Night is embraced by vandals and arsonists to commit acts ranging from mischief to destruction. As a result the city once again asked for volunteers to patrol the streets to cut down on potential arsons.

At least 2,000 people are expected to be out patrolling on the first night in the City of Detroit. We want to keep everybody safe for this angels night period and we want to provide an opportunity for young people to experience Halloween in a safe and controlled environment, said Frazier Kimpson. The Director of Community Relations for Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, helped organize the event. City officials say there will be 50 volunteers working at the police ministations throughout the city and are asking for as many volunteers as possible to patrol their communities.

What were asking is if you are not patrolling or not volunteering and you are at home that you keep your eyes open for any suspicious activity, said police chief Alvern Lock. If you see anything, call 911. In 2006 the city reported 17 arsons between midnight Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. Nov. 1. The city had 11 arsons in 2007, 13 in 2008 and five in 2009 between midnight Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. Nov. 1, and three last year.

This year, therefore, volunteers will be driving around the city keeping an eye out for suspicious behaviorEach volunteer is equipped with a flashlight, free t-shirt, and a map. Some opines that more volunteers are needed and to join a phone number{(313) 224-3450} is also provided.
